During an interview with Tumpat MP Datuk Kamaruddin Jaafar, it was said that 2014 will not be a good year for the average person. Due to the decreasing economy of Malaysia, prices for products have increased while job salaries have decreased. The Malaysian people "will need to tighten their belts to make ends meet due to the recent price hikes," said Tumpat MP Datuk Kamaruddin Jaafar. It is predicted that citizens will begin to take their frustrations out on the streets, forming protests. New protests and demonstrations are predicted to happen during the year of 2014. It is believed that more people, especially young adults, will keep the government in check, as they have in previous years. The article also discusses the concern of cuts to fuel subsidies and the controversial, impending Goods and Services tax.
This article reminds me of the government of the United States. The issues of the Malaysian government are somewhat similar to the issues of the United States government. Solutions to problems are not always seen as actual solutions to other people. Since this article only included one point of view, it is difficult to actually pick a side on this issue. However, it is frustrating that many citizens will not be able to afford the things that they used to be able to afford due to the decisions of the government.
This article is highly beneficial for the people of Malaysia. Although only one side of the issue was given, the article gave some insight on the current issues of Malaysia. The issue discussed in the article will affect most of the citizens of Malaysia. Due to more taxes, tariffs, and toll hikes, Malaysians will have to empty their pockets in order to be able to afford things such as electricity and transportation. The article also gave a warning to the Malaysian government to be prepared for more demonstrations and protests from citizens.
