Denmark, Where Joy Is Always in Season
This year would mark as Denmark's second year in a row as being named the "happiest place in the world," especially during the holiday season. However, being named as the happiest place in the world is not the only achievement that the Danish has gained. Denmark also shares the world record title in trust with Norway and Sweden. As surprising as this may sound, economic prosperity is the whole reason of why Denmark is the happiest place in the world. According to economic professor or Aarhas University, Christian Bjornskov, the population's strong belief in personal freedom is what helped Denmark gain its title. A common belief that the Danish people share is that "you can change things in your own life." The article continues on talking about the the Danish's Christmas spirit. During the Christmas season, many business buildings are decorated with Christmas decorations. Denmark's Christmas spirit continues on in July, when the World Santa Claus championship is held.
After reading this article, I am quite envious of the country of Denmark. I didn't even know there was a world title for trust. Compared to America, Denmark seems like a much safer and happier place to live, due to its' world title of the happiest and trusted place in the world. I think that the Santa Claus Championships would be really interesting to watch. I can imagine teams of Santa Clauses racing down chimneys, throwing bags of presents, and dousing down cookies with milk.
This article definitely shows the common beliefs of the Danish people. Personal freedom is sought for throughout the world. The Danish people take advantage of their personal freedom and take charge of their lives, changing what needs to be changed in order to gain happiness in their lives. This can say a lot about their culture. Their high holiday spirits can either symbolize their strong religious beliefs or just their contagious happiness.
